Water helps keep us going

By Jeff Cline

In grade school we learned what water is made up of. We learned about the hydrogen and oxygen atom make up. But I do not remember learning how important it is to our bodies and how much we need each day to stay healthy.

Here is some facts; our bodies are 60 to 70% water. It regulates our body temperature and helps nutrition get through our bodies It support all lungs, brains and kidney's to name a few. Our blood is mostly water.

It makes since that when we sweat due to exercise and urination that water is continually needed. We must replace the water that is depleted from our bodies. It is important for these reason to keep your body hydrated

You should look for signs of dehydration. Some signs are subtle others are obvious. One less obvious sign is muscle cramping. But, with mild dehydration you can also get joint, back pain and headaches. It also causes constipation and amber colored urine.

Now that we understand that our bodies need water, we need to know how much we should be drinking. A good rule of thumb as to divide you body weight by 2, that is how many ounces you should be consuming.

So you think there is no way you can drink that much water? Well there is good news. Twenty percent of our water comes from the foods we eat. The other 80% can come from tap or spring water as well as, flavored water, Kool-Aid, non caffeinated tea and sports drinks.

There are many ways we can track our water consumption. It is hard with our busy lives. Some people keep a daily log, some keep a water bottle full all the time and some go as far as keeping rubber bands around their wrist, removing them each time the have 8 ounces.

Want great skin, then do not forget to drink your daily allotment of water that your body needs to operate. Remember the signs of dehydration and heed that warning. Set a goal to drink all you can. - 16650
