Acne Outbreaks During Pregnancy

By Fran Anderson

As a result of the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy, many women suffer from acne outbreaks while pregnant. There are remedies for acne available which are safe for pregnant women to use. Your doctor should be able to advise you on an acne treatment and always consult your doctor before using any acne product while pregnant.

Most of the time, breakouts can be attributed to pore blockages or bacteria lurking beneath the skin. This is not necessarily true for pregnant women, however. Pregnancy related changes to the level of hormones in the body often result in acne outbreaks.

If your daily skin routine is not preventing acne outbreaks during your pregnancy, you may be thinking about using an acne remedy to clear up your skin. Be certain to get your doctor's approval prior to using any acne treatment. Your doctor can advise you on which remedies are safe during pregnancy and which are not.

Non-prescription, topically applied treatments such as those containing a lower concentration of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can generally be safely used while pregnant. Be cautious, though, and talk to your doctor before using any topical remedy.

Oral acne remedies should be avoided since many contain ingredients that are not safe for pregnant women. The only time you should consider taking such acne medications is when your doctor has prescribed one for you.

Treatments for acne said to be made from natural ingredients cannot automatically be assumed safe for use during pregnancy. Seek your doctor's advice when considering a natural or herbal remedy.

Being more susceptible to acne breakouts while pregnant is entirely normal. You have to be careful about how you treat your acne, of course. With a regular mild cleansing and your doctor's recommendation for a treatment, clearing up acne breakouts and maintaining your skin's health are quite possible. - 16650
