Using Kirlian Photography for Alternative Medicine

By Deborah Lindholm

For the purpose of alternative and Eastern medicine the images produced by Kirlian photography are regarded as a well-established diagnostic tool. The profound effect on the ability to heal found in these images are about to be shared with you as we look at what Kirlian photography is and what exactly its purpose is.

Kirlian Photography Defined.

Discovered completely by accident in 1939 Semyon Kirlian found that by placing an object on a photographic plate which was connected to an electrical source, radiant images were created among the electrical field found on the edges of the object, thereby becoming visible.

Electrography, corona discharge photography and electro photography are all different names with the same meaning as Kirlian photography. This is due to the connection made between the images and electricity. As is found in the common Kirlian experiment of the torn leaf's image being taken, the image will be the surrounding field of electricity of the full leaf, and not that of the half. The theory in this would be energy left behind from the full leaf allows the electrical current to hold the residual energy to produce the full image.

Kirlian photography is therefore the practice of capturing the energy of every living thing's 'life force' on film by way of images.

Healing With Kirlian Photography

Many common eastern medicine traditions including Reiki and acupuncture are based on energy fields in the body. Kirlian photography, because it gives a practitioner the ability to visualize these energy fields, is a useful diagnosis and evaluative tool.

It is possible, as in the case of an acupuncturist to take an image of a person while making their initial evaluation, and be able to show the patient specifically which areas are no longer in balance. Not meant by any means to replace the traditions diagnostic procedures used by acupuncturists, it does however provide them with supplemental information, allowing them to better explain their assessment to the patient on a visual level.

According to some scientists and practitioners there is a theory regarding Kirlian photography having a role in the detection of cancer along with other diseases devastating in nature. Studies have shown that a plant containing a form of cancer has a much more vivid electrical field or corona and other devastating diseases. For example, plants with cancer show up with a very vivid corona or electrical field than those of healthy plants - all due to the higher metabolic rate of cancerous cells.

Kirlian photography may also be a possibility within the treatment of psychiatric care patients. With the ability to present signs of the patient's emotional state while being photographed, people in a relaxed state tend to show results in the blue-white corona, while any state of anxiety or stress tend to exhibit a superimposition of red which can possibly dissolve the coronal boundary. This information is based on the numerous tests conducted by Dr. Thelma Moss of UCLA during the 1970s.

Kirlian photography, while it has skeptics, also has a strong foundation in the scientific and healing world. Professionals have used this 'accidental' discovery to help the lives of their patients around the world. It is hoped that it will become embraced by traditional western medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of major diseases like cancer. In the meantime, alternative healers are a great way to tap into this diagnostic and healing tool. - 16650
