Weight Loss Pills - Beware Of The Side Effects

By Kurt Naulaerts

Excess weight is fast becoming the number one medical problem in the civilized world and the longer this situation goes on the more damage is done to the body, some of it irreparable. Of course the bigger you are the more the heart has too work to make sure the blood is pumped around the system and with all the fat and sugary foods that are being consumed, it is no surprise that diabetes is also on the increase.

Many people when they need to lose weight turn to diet pills but if you are someone considering weight loss diet pills, you need to be aware of some of the dangers. One of the constituents of some diet pills is amphetamines which can pose a danger if there are already health issues to consider.

The side effects caused by use of amphetamines is nervousness, increased blood pressure, irregular heart beat and irritability so if you have an underlying heart problem, taking amphetamines could be fatal. There are a number of other side effects caused by the chemicals contained in weight loss pills which induce a laxative and diuretic effect leading to dehydration and a imbalance in the electrolyte level.

The human electrolyte level is made up of certain chemicals like sodium, potassium, calcium, glucose and chloride which are all needed to maintain a healthy body but when they are lost through the laxative effect of the diet pills it can lead to heart problems among others. The addictive effects of diet pills is also well documented and many people who use them regularly end up requiring more and more until eventually they cannot cope without them.

So as you can see, taking weight loss pills is not always the best solution to your weight problem and the best way to lose weight is to follow a diet program but not just any program, but one that will give you the option to choose a variety of healthy foods. The key here is to reduce the amount eaten at any one sitting (not just about how healthy it is) and to have more, smaller meals which have the effect of increasing the speed of the metabolism and as a consequence, calories are burned off quicker. - 16650
